They meet their mother. She starts to cry.
The Chara part panics.
They RESET.
They meet their mother. She tries to attack.
She dies before a single spark can fly.
Frisk panics. It refused--
They RESET.
They meet their mother. They explain roughly who they were. She barely holds herself together, but she manages it, and she doesn't make them panic this time.
No, that's two days later, when a longing thought crosses Chara's mind--why don't we visit Asgsore? and Asriel panics all on his own, and that's enough.
They RESET.
And so it goes.
A few tries in, they manage to leave the RUINS. They also leave it a smoldering wreck of deformed star bullets and dust, and they RESET halfway to Snowdin after leaving the Dogi scattered across the snow, but it's still a triumph, still fills them with DETERMINATION.
They perfunctorily kill everyone they meet, once, twice, three times. Out of fear, out of uncontrolled rage, out of controlled rage, out of boredom--it feels familiar and disgusting. Then again, most things do.
They decide they want to make it to Snowdin this time.
They even manage to get out the door without killing Toriel, though there's plenty of dust on their red paws from Froggits that couldn't get out of the way fast enough.
They're huge--they have a body, almost lionlike, 'cause it's hard to move around with just a disembodied torso, and two legs is terrible when control is constantly being swapped. The massive anomaly-beast's footprints looks like it was drunken or concussed before they made their way to the "checkpoint". And even if all that was missed, they're the color of blood, a horrifying contrast against the snow and trees.
They knock the gate down with a single blow and move on, ears twitching. Waiting for a certain someone.
They're smiling.
