They go. It isn't an intentional move, leaving them alone together, but any particular true danger distress would be enough to call them back. It's necessary to calm. Their presence would not help.
In the meantime, Greenhorn is still a mess of black around his lower arm. They heard that. They still feel terrible. They've never, ever--done any of this before. Travelled around outside. Got an interesting thing to hold onto. And this first time they broke it.
They're just...it's awful. It's almost like scared, but not. It's not being scared about dying or getting hurt again.
(A first experience of anything difficult is, naturally, the worst experience of that thing someone has dealt with to that point. In their fragments of existence, Greenhorn has never had reason to feel genuine guilt before.)
