The best dreams are the ones that leave you with an idea, or even just a mood, that sticks around long after you wake up. These are the dreams that keep sleep from being a complete waste of time, in Drosselmeyer's opinion.
He watches them dancing through his beloved Gold Crown Town, Tutu weeping piteously, the Raven mercilessly tearing out hearts, the Knight bleeding out in the streets, and the Prince, looking on, lost and beautiful and helpless. Drosselmeyer does not intervene, except in carving out additional puppets to add to the scene, mostly crows to assist the Raven's machinations.
Nightmare Option:
They're there, they've found him- the Book Men pound relentlessly against the door, even as Drosselmeyer frantically runs through his house, fruitlessly shoving furniture between him and them. It's so dark he keeps banging into walls and furniture, the only light the flickering glare of distant torches. He's too busy to even curse, and his wrists itch something dreadful.
